The SHUYOKAN DOJO was operated by Shihan Hunter from three locations in the Toronto/Newmarket area from 2007 to 2016
Shihan Hunter taught Karatdeo, Judo, Jujutsu, Catch Wrestling, Sambo, and No Gi grappling classes, at the SHUYOKAN DOJO.
On October 30, 2016, Shihan Darren Hunter made the decision to move to the nation's capital in order to open a dojo of his own.
On September 1st, 2017, Shihan Darren Hunter and Sempai Simon Choisnet founded Shuyokan Dojo, Incorporated with the explicit purpose of opening a multi-program dojo focusing on Karatedo, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu. On October 1st, 2017 Shuyokan Dojo was able to secure a location to begin teaching at the Merivale United Church at the corner of West Hunt Club and Merivale in the Nepean area of Ottawa.
On November 15th, 2017 the first official class of the new Shuyokan Dojo took place with Shihan Hunter as head instructor and Sempai Simon as assistant instructor. On November 24, 2018 Sempai Simon Choisnet passed away after a long battle with cancer.
On November 23, 2023, Shuyokan Dojo moved to the Sandy Hill Community Centre, located in the Sandy Hill area of Ottawa.
